Medium: Color pencil
Description: 📚
Epithelial tissues are found extensively throughout the body. Its functions include covering body surfaces and cavities, absorption, secretion, filtration, and gas diffusion. They can be classified according to shape. There is the squamous, cuboidal, and columnar epithelium. They are also classified according to the number or orientation of layers. There are the simple, stratified, pseudostratified, and transitional layers.
Portrayed tissues: 🎨
Simple squamous epithelium (1) is found in the alveoli and capillaries where diffusion occurs.
Simple cuboidal (2) is found in glands where secretion and excretion of substances are needed.
Simple columnar (3) can be found in the intestines where there is the absorption of nutrients and water.
Lastly, stratified squamous epithelium (4) is found in the skin where lots of friction and damage occur.
Note: All drawings were based on the microscopic images provided by our instructor.
