    Activity 4: Integumentary System

The integumentary system is the largest organ system in the body, consisting of the skin,
hair, nails, and associated glands. It serves as a protective barrier against the external
environment, regulates body temperature, and facilitates sensory perception

    📍Human Palmar Skin

The palmar skin, found on the palms of the hands, is composed of thick, keratinized
stratified squamous epithelial tissue. This specialized skin is designed to provide
protection and grip, with a high concentration of sweat glands and sensory receptors that
allow for fine motor control and tactile sensation. The epidermis is thicker in this region,
and the dermis contains dense connective tissue and a rich blood supply to support the
high level of activity in the hands.

    📍Human Scalp

The skin of the human scalp is also composed of keratinized stratified squamous
epithelial tissue. It is characterized by the presence of hair follicles, which are embedded
in the dermis and produce the hair that covers the scalp. The scalp skin is thicker and
more durable than other areas of the body, providing protection for the underlying skull
and brain. The dermis in this region contains sebaceous glands that produce oil to keep
    the hair and skin moisturized.

    📍Human Brown Skin

The brown skin found in certain human populations is characterized by the presence of
melanocytes, specialized pigment-producing cells located in the basal layer of the
epidermis. These melanocytes produce melanin, a pigment that provides protection
against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

    📍Human Hair

Hair is a keratinized, filamentous structure that emerges from the skin’s surface, primarily
found on the scalp, face, and other areas of the body. It is composed of dead, keratinized
cells that are produced by the hair follicle, a specialized structure located in the dermis.
Hair serves various functions, including insulation, protection, and sensory perception, as
well as playing a role in social and cultural expression.
