Muscle tissue is a specialized type of animal tissue that contracts to apply forces to different parts of the body, enabling movement. It consists of elongated cells called muscle fibers, bundled together and surrounded by layers of connective tissue. The outermost layer, known as the epimysium, provides support and protection to the entire muscle bundle. Within this layer, nerve cell bundles called fascicles run, contributing to muscle function. Surrounding the fascicles is the perimysium, which allows for the flow of nerves and blood to individual muscle fibers. Each muscle fiber is further enclosed by the endomysium.
