1. Learning Insights
Like other students, I thought with the subject matter Health Information Systems (HIS) it would have more to do with the coding and development of such programs. Rather, the subject was focused more on its practical application in the clinical laboratory. This application does not necessarily involve computer technology as demonstrated by the manual methods exhibited by some of the labs our class interviewed. When keeping records, surprisingly a lot of labs still opt to use manual method of writing down information. Others have adapted using Excel and other personal programs they have bought the license to use. Regardless of the choice of HIS, having these systems are necessary to ensure the smooth flow of operations in the lab.

I mostly learned a lot from when we created our own clinical laboratory online. I learned the exact process and procedures that went into the creation of a clinical laboratory from the needed utilities, procedures, policies, personnel, etc.

What is the importance of material management in the laboratory and your life?

Material management is essential to ensure any smooth and safe flow of operations. It reduces waste or mishandling of materials and ensures the optimal function of any clinical laboratory. It not only sustains the functions of a clinical laboratory but also allows us manage supplies in a way that is best suited for the individual needs of a clinical laboratory. It promotes the optimal utilization of funds by finding the right balance between quantity and quality of supplies. Through this, a clinical laboratory is able to provide the best services for its stakeholders without having to sacrifice the business side of a clinical laboratory.

From the perspective of a practicing medical technologist, it allows me to do my job without any obstructions or distractions as a result of insufficient materials. It helps keep all equipment in the laboratory at their best condition through avoiding any errors or issues that could arise from using the wrong or outdated materials. Keeping careful note of all supplies available along with any hazard warnings discourages any potential accidents in the workplace.

1. What is system analysis and design?
System analysis and design is the evaluation and adaptation of systems to solve new problems or challenges that may arise in an organization. It involves the active development of new techniques and processes to meet new demands placed on the system. The application of system analysis and design mainly deals with the integration of technology in businesses to better meet the needs of clientele and create more optimal methods of meeting goals.
