MT 30 (LEC)- AAWhy is histology important?
As we all know, histology is the microscopic study of tissues— groups of cells working together. Histology is essential as it allows us to visualize tissue structure and its corresponding function under the microscope. It also shows us some changes of the characteristics the tissue may have undergone. In line with this, it plays a significant role in medical diagnosis, scientific study, autopsy, and forensic investigation (Gurina, 2023).
According to Snider (n.d.), histology may focus on the smaller details of our body, but its importance is big. It pushes advancements in healthcare and it strengthens our understanding on how these tiny structures work within us. Aside from learning the tissues’ structure and function, histology can also aid in determining the cause of death in an autopsy. In line with our profession, it also helps us in detecting abnormalities happening inside the body. By these, physicians can diagnose the disease and provide the treatment that is needed.
