The female ovaries are identical to the male testes. Female gametes (oocytes) and the hormones estrogen and progesterone are produced in the ovaries. One on either side of the uterus, near to the lateral wall of the pelvic, are the ovaries. The broad ligament of the uterus supports each ovary, which is almond-shaped. -
