Policies are the principles and rules that regulate the management, access, and protection of health information in a health information system, guaranteeing compliance with legal and ethical standards. Processes are the systematic procedures and actions involved in gathering, organizing, storing, and disseminating health information to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and timeliness. Workflows define the system’s job and information flow sequences, allowing for efficient coordination and collaboration among healthcare professionals and stakeholders. Procedures define how to complete specific activities inside processes, guaranteeing consistency, standardization, and quality in processing health information across the system.

Reflection

Health Information Systems (HIS) have been quite beneficial to me. HIS makes medical information, research articles, and educational materials easily accessible, allowing me to keep current and informed. HIS facilitates data management in the laboratory, allowing us to efficiently record and track patient information, test results, and investigations. It improves collaboration among healthcare providers, increases diagnostic accuracy, and fosters effective communication. Overall, HIS has improved my student learning experience and streamlined laboratory processes, making work more efficient and effective.
