CAD
Narrowing of the coronary arteries affects the heart’s blood supply and when this happens, it is a sign of coronary artery disease (CAD). Some of this disease’s risk factors include genetics, age, smoking, high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle. On the other hand, its treatment may include medications along with exercise, and a healthy diet. In severe cases, invasive procedures such as bypass surgery or angioplasty may be advised.
In the video below, it explains that because of the obstruction of a coronary artery through blood clots, it can lead to a person having atherosclerosis (the build of fats and other substances on the walls of the artery). Another thing that the video emphasizes is that, symptoms of this disease are not recognized at its early stages. This is because atherosclerosis begins to develop years or even decades before visible symptoms are noticed. In addition, atherosclerosis plaques grow slowly.
Muscles start to die without oxygen when a myocardial infarction occurs because the blood supply to the cardiac muscles is abruptly cut off. It then causes the heart to stop beating in a matter of minutes. Further, one promising strategy is being studied to prevent myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular death in patients with cad and that is the vascular protection through reduction of thrombin generation.
