In a histopathology laboratory, thorough monitoring and evaluation is essential in order to function effectively and safely. It is not only that the working environment or the facility is checked, but also the personnel involved in the laboratory. It is very important to take note that safety is a must in a histopathology laboratory. Yes, safety should be the top priority because there are a number of risks that workers in the lab are exposed to. Number one in the list is the risk from toxic chemicals. There are a lot of chemical associated risks in a histopathology laboratory that lab workers should be mindful of because these chemicals may cause serious injuries that can sometimes lead to death. Risks can also be obtained from mechanical, electrical, and fire hazards. Fresh tissues examined in the lab are the top contributors of biological risks while the equipment used to examine these specimens which are mostly electrically powered, are the ones that pose electrical hazards. However, all these risks associated with the different hazards, can be prevented, not entirely but at least, through or only if a system called the Laboratory Quality Management System is implemented or applied. This system is composed of quality control, quality assurance, and continuing quality improvement. If these compositions are performed in every scope of activity in a histopathology lab, safety can be improved for the lab personnel and the patients involved. Since histopathology reports play a vital role in patient treatment, adaptation of such system is required and should be complied.
