MT 13 – GH 1 year, 3 months ago The cell is the basic and the fundamental unit of life. It consists of organelles that are functional to our bodies. The plasma membrane protects the internal part of the cell and it allows what and what cannot go into the cell. The cytoplasm, is a gel-like substance where organelles are being contained. The nucleus is the control center of the cell and it houses our genetic material . The nucleolus is where the ribosomes are formed. The nuclear pores allow substances into or out of the nucleus. Mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, it is where ATP is located. The two types of endoplasmic reticulum, rough and smooth; the rough ER plays in protein synthesis and ribosomes are attached to it, meanwhile the smooth ER plays in lipid synthesis and it lacks ribosomes. The ribosomes synthesize proteins. The golgi apparatus, it process, packs, and modify proteins and lipids for delivery. While the lysosome can break down all type of polymers. Vacuole, it serves as storage of the cell. The centrioles organize the microtubules – it supports the shape of the cell. Peroxisome, contain digestive enzymes that break down toxic materials and oxidative enzymes.
All organelles play a specific role and they work together in order to sustain life.
