Pathophysiology combines pathology (the study of the causes and effects of disease) with physiology (the study of how systems of the body function). In other words, pathophysiology studies how diseases affect the systems of the body, causing functional changes that can lead to health consequences.

In practice, this means that it is the lab manager\’s job to monitor equipment, maintain cleanliness and safety, ensure on-site systems are functioning, the facilities and infrastructure are appropriate and fixing issues as they emerge.

Laboratory Management is responsible for providing advice and information to scientists on health and safety, particularly on how to carry out risk assessments and on appropriate control measures.

One of the most critical aspects of laboratory management is ensuring that the laboratory\’s condition and personnel are up to date. Personnel in a medical or clinical laboratory, for example, must follow ethical guidelines when gathering data, conducting experiments, evaluating data, and publishing the results.

Medical Definition of Pathophysiology
Deranged function in an individual or an organ due to a disease. For example, a pathophysiologic alteration is a change in function as distinguished from a structural defect.

Pathophysiology is the convergence of pathology (the discipline of observed changes in a diseased state) with physiology (the mechanisms of systems operation). It represents the functional changes that occur because of injury or disease.
