    MT14 – CC

    Insights, Realizations, Learnings

The curriculum of MT 14 or ‘Health Information System for Med Lab Science’ revealed to me the very many intricate systems and mechanisms woven together to become the thin line that determines whether a Clinical Laboratory, or even any health institution for that matter, is efficient and adequate enough to produce quality results and services. It taught me that there is so much more at work than a laboratory’s simple surface-level functions and that to each employee is a set standard of etiquette and skill. The management and correct handling of sensitive patient data, the timely overseeing of inventory and use of equipment, and the systemized processes behind what it really means to put improved patient care and outcomes at the forefront of any medical mission and health endeavors — MT14 has opened my eyes to see how being a Medical Technologist does not only mean being knowledgeable of the laboratory procedures but it also entails taking to heart policies, putting into practice what we have learned, and seeing to it that patient safety and care is our top priority.

This course has opened my eyes to the heavy yet fulfilling weight a Medical Technologist carries upon their shoulders. We are at the heart of healthcare and the key to accurately diagnosing patient conditions. That makes clear the undeniably crucial role we must take to ensure that no errors are carried out within and during the laboratory processes to get there. As such, through the introduction of how to properly utilize Health Information Systems and its other vital properties, we become able to better support this noble cause.

Health Information Systems are the pathway to a future of improved healthcare, and as such, is indeed an indivisible part of our profession and career, necessary to tackle and evermore indispensable.
