    Hyaline Cartilage
Hyaline cartilage is the glassy, translucent cartilage on many joint surfaces. Ribs, nose, larynx, and trachea have hyaline cartilage. It’s pearl-grey, firm, and contains collagen. No nerves or blood vessels, simple structure. The perichondrium, or synovial membrane, protects hyaline cartilage from the outside. This membrane contains capillaries that diffuse cartilage nutrition. Type II collagen and chondroitin sulphate are found in both hyaline and elastic cartilage. Hyaline cartilage is found in the sternal ends of ribs, the larynx, trachea, and bronchi, and on bone articulating surfaces. The buildings look firm but flexible. Collagen fibers give structure and joints strength but limit mobility and flexibility.
