Human nervous tissue is the main tissue component of the nervous system, responsible for regulating and controlling body functions and activities. It consists of two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS), comprising the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system (PNS), comprising the branching peripheral nerves. The CNS is composed of grey matter (containing cell bodies, dendrites, and unmyelinated axons) and white matter (containing myelinated axons). The PNS includes ganglion tissue (containing cell bodies and dendrites) and nerves (comprising myelinated and unmyelinated axons and Schwann cells). Nervous tissue is essential for sensory input, integration, control of muscles and glands, homeostasis, and mental activity.Reference:
