“Learning through writing: Teaching Critical Thinking Skills through writing”

Nowadays, technology has made a major impact not only in our lives but also in the workplace. As more and more companies continue to develop themselves, they make use of machinery that can work on its own through the use of technology. Throughout the development of technology, we have seen how it revolutionized the medical field.
An example of such development in the medical field is the use of the Laboratory Information System (LIS). The Laboratory Information System is a game-changing system that has revolutionized the medical industry, making the impossible, possible. Developers have designed this complete network of computer components to integrate all aspects of the laboratory’s informational demands, including initial service requests, workflow processing, and the timely delivery of results.
In general, the functions of the laboratory information system focus on helping enhance efficiency and accuracy and ensure the quality of laboratory activities. This tool can assist in the optimization of the laboratory’s operating procedures and the processing of samples while following proper protocols.
Comprising essential elements like hardware, software, people, procedure, and data, this intricate ecosystem is the backbone that makes up the Laboratory Information System. The system would be incomplete if these critical variables did not interact properly. Their collaborative synergy enables professionals to improve data management, centralize information, and enable seamless data access, among other benefits.
At its core, a good Laboratory Information System has two main components: Specimen Tracking and Patient Tracking. Specimen tracking involves various tasks, like following specimens from when they’re received, guiding them through tests, and storing their information. It can also record diagnostic results from lab equipment and connect them to specimen details.
Meanwhile, Patient Tracking focuses on a comprehensive perspective of the patient’s journey, including outcomes and combining patient and specimen data. This aspect of the system provides critical support for patient management and treatment, allowing for a more comprehensive approach to healthcare.
The Laboratory Information System not only streamlines the work of medical practitioners and professionals but also expedites the delivery of results to a remarkable degree. With the use of an LIS, a laboratory can automate workflow processes, integrate laboratory instruments, and manage samples and associated information.
The Laboratory Information System, which began as a “turn-key” solution, empowers laboratories by giving them interactive control over essential functions via a computer. This level of control ensures that daily processing is precise and efficient. By using microcomputers and microprocessors, a network of automated analyzers produces results. Links connect to a central mainframe computer to identify patients and process past data.
In conclusion, the Laboratory Information System is proof of how far technology has come when combined with the realm of healthcare. It is proof of the extraordinary achievements of the professionals in our current generation. Its detailed design and smooth component integration have improved data management, reduced laboratory operations, and opened the road for quick, accurate, and patient-centered healthcare delivery. This system exemplifies the partnership of technology and medicine, offering vital help to medical professionals while improving the quality of healthcare for all.
