| Interests | (This was supposed to be seven paragraphs, but the system won't allow it. If you read this from start to finish, then you're truly interested in me. This is my last will and testament, by the way. I wish you luck!) I've always been a curious kid. Growing up, I've always wanted to try new things and explore new places. As a result, I've acquired a lot of interest over the years. Some of them are, inevitably, temporary, some come and go, and some became a part of my identity. My interests range from books, movies, TV shows, food, sports, and a heck of a lot more things. To begin with, I love watching film series like Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Hunger Games, and many more. I also love watching television series like Game of Thrones, Grey's Anatomy, and Golden Girls and sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Young Sheldon, Superstore, and the like. When it comes to individual movies, a few of my favorites include Call Me By Your Name, The Wizard of Oz, and everything Disney (I'm a Disney kid, always and forever, to infinity and beyond). However, among all the stuff I like to do, I have one favorite. And it is none other than this queer television competition show for drag queens called RuPaul's Drage Race. I first saw it back in 7th grade and am now a superfan. I think my obsession with Drag Race requires another whole paragraph, but I'll spare you from it. Moving on, I also like listening to music. Currently, I'm on a mix of pop, indie, and country. My top favorite artists, according to YouTube Music, are Sufjan Stevens, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Adelle, Taylor Swift, Chappel Roan, Hozier, and Troye Sivan. However, my all-time favorite music is Mystery of Love by Sufjan Stevens. It's the soundtrack of my favorite movie, CMBYN. I love reading books, too, although I haven't finished any single book in my entire life. But among the ones I've "read," I loved The Song of Achilles, The Wizard of Oz, To Kill a Mockingbird, Rainy Days in December, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I also love reading poetry and sometimes writing it, and all things that make me escape, literally or metaphorically, from the harshness of the real world. An extension of my curiosity, I love all things science, but physics above all. I'm obsessed with topics about the intricacies of the universe—how it all began and what will become of it (I'm a physics nerd, I know). From fermions to bosons, stars to supernovae, black holes to dark energy—learning about the cosmos will always have a special place in my heart. Although I am in allied health, I will always have time for it. Physics made me realize that I'm as much part of the universe as everything, that we're all essentially stardust. All the things that make us sentient beings—carbon, nitrogen, and all the other elements that compose us—are forged in the hearts of dying stars. For billions of years, these elementary particles have floated across the vacuum of space until something allowed them to arrange themselves spontaneously and form temporary structures that can think, feel, and explore. In some way, it's comforting to think that our individual lives are nothing but individual threads in the tapestry of existence. This is also the reason why I love Minecraft. I've been playing it since I was a kid. What I love about it is the lore, how you can play it however you want to, and how it makes you aware of the fact that all of us are made of energy, and when we die, we get to be a part of the same but greater story. We may not exist physically anymore, but our essence will endure—perhaps through the leaves of trees, the drops of rain, or the gentle breeze. In between all this, I love eating, sleeping, traveling, playing, and all things that make you appreciate the beauty that life can bring. Not everyone gets to see and experience life the way I do, and for that, I am grateful. I will continue to value and cherish it the same way I value and cherish my interests. (I apologize if it went from sharing my interests to reflecting on life. I got overpowered by my thoughts.) |
