MT30-Histology Art AB 4 years, 4 months ago 1. Large intestine – The large intestine is in your lower abdominal cavity from your waist down. It is where food waste is formed into poop, stored, and finally excreted
2. Small intestine – The small intestine is coiled inside the lower abdominal cavity beneath the stomach. It helps to further digest food coming from the stomach.
3. Pancreas – It is located inside your abdomen, just behind your stomach. During digestion, your pancreas makes pancreatic juices called enzymes.
4. Mouth – It starts at the lips and ends at the throat. Your mouth allows air and nutrients to enter your body, and it also helps you speak.
5. Stomach – Your stomach sits in your upper abdomen on the left side of your body. Your stomach’s purpose is to digest food and send it to your small intestine. It has three functions: Temporarily store food. Contract and relax to mix and break down food.
6. Esophagus – The esophagus is located in the center of your chest in an area called the mediastinum. The primary function of your esophagus is to carry food and liquid from your mouth to your stomach.
7. Liver – The liver is located in the upper right-hand portion of the abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm, and on top of the stomach, right kidney, and intestines. Make and secrete bile and to process and purify the blood containing newly absorbed nutrients that are coming from the small intestine.
8. Anal canal – Lies between the anal verge (anal orifice, anus) in the perineum below and the rectum above. The functions of the anal canal include the maintenance of fecal continence and defecation.
9. Gallbladder – Your gallbladder is located in the upper right part of your abdomen. Its main function is to store bile.
10. Salivary glands – Each gland is behind the lower jaw, just under the chin and tongue, on either side of the face Salivary glands play an important role in digestion because they make saliva.
