Abnormalities of cardiac rhythm are associated with substantial morbidity and economic costs. Atrial fibrillation affects at least 2.3 million people in the United States alone and is associated with increased risks of stroke and mortality. This article examines the frequency of cardiac rhythm abnormalities and their risk factors in community-dwelling adults.
