This research article discusses that age is not a risk factor for decreased integumentary histology and wound recovery. However, older individuals can be at risk of integumentary dysfunction and delayed wound healing because it is slowed as a result of slower cellular reactions, thinner skin, and detrimental behaviors like smoking and sedentary lifestyle. Check the link to find out more.

    • From this study, I was able to know that comorbid disorders that are more common in the elderly are frequently connected with integumentary and wound abnormalities like congestive heart failure, diabetes, vascular disease. These comorbid disorders increase the likelihood of integumentary and vascular impairments in older persons. Most older persons with diseases that put them “at risk” for integumentary and wound damage can enjoy intact and healthy skin into old age with rigorous preventative treatment and coordinated practice within the geriatric and wound care disciplines.
