Hi.
Note: I was having minor difficulties posting my content so I took the initiative to upload the video along with the text as seen at the bottom. I humbly apologize if it does not comply with the format given. I am using only a cellphone to upload my post and I hope for your kind consideration and understanding regarding my situation. Thank you.
What I learned from the video:
In the 1900s, interviewers hire applicants and accept workers regardless of their background and skillsets they offer. People during this time were willing to accept anyone as long as they had an interest to get the job done. The poor selection process, however, resulted in workers losing motivation, loafing, frustration, and thus yielding poor results.
When the 1900s era transitioned to the early 2000s, Frederick W. Taylor then introduced the Theory of Scientific Management. During this time, business sectors applied the concept of selecting workers based on their skills and managers decide to choose which candidates would be appropriate for the job. The theory along with managers providing training and supervision to workers, and constant monitoring of work performance, ensures that businesses utilize the most efficient way of working.
The theory supersedes the concept of working by a “rule of thumb” and helps businesses to become successful by focusing on efficiency rather than willingness.
Backtracking the history of the Scientific Management Theory, I was able to grasp its significance to current businesses in the present day and how management and applicant selection directly alters the future and success of a company.
I chose this video because I think that a careful selection process when it comes to members being assigned to a team is crucial for us to observe organization, cooperation, and management. As stated in the video, one of the drawbacks of the past era was that they did not prioritize coordination with their fellow workers and minimal interaction between colleagues resulted in an uncoordinated workflow. We can learn from these past mistakes and apply this knowledge to improve our group. Carefully choosing which person is best suited for the job and maintaining good communication among the team is a step in achieving a successful outcome in lab management.
