The ureters, bladder, and a portion of the urethra are lined with transitional epithelium, which is essential to the urinary system because it permits these organs to expand and contract as necessary to store and release urine. Simple cuboidal epithelium, which borders the renal tubules and is involved in blood filtration and urine formation, makes up the majority of the epithelium found in the kidneys. The transitional epithelium-lined ureters subsequently carry the urine to the bladder. The urinary system can operate well and the bladder may expand and contract without leaking thanks to this specific epithelium, which also maintains an efficient barrier against waste materials in urine.
