In the kidney, simple squamous epithelium lines the Bowman's capsule and glomerulus. It allow rapid filtration and diffusion as the kidney filters approximately 180 liters of blood per day.

Stratified squamous epithelium in esophagus It is protected by this type of epithelial linings normally because it is not exposed to dryness or to abrasion. It is a non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium. It contains scattered submucosal mucous glands responsible for lubrication and moisture.

Simple cuboidal epithelial linings in the kidney tubules enable absorption and transportation of filtered substances.
