Muscle tissue is made up of cells with the unique capacity to shorten or contract in order to cause bodily components to move. The tissue is densely packed with cells and has a good supply of blood vessels. Because the cells are long and slender, they are sometimes referred to as muscle fibers, and they are typically grouped in bundles or layers surrounded by connective tissue.
