The brain, spinal cord, and nerves all include nerve tissue. It is in charge of coordinating and controlling various bodily functions. It promotes muscular contraction, raises environmental awareness, and is involved in emotions, memory, and thinking. Neural tissue cells must be able to interact with one another via electrical nerve impulses. Neurons or nerve cells are the cells in the nervous tissue that create and conduct impulses. Dendrites, cell bodies, and one axon are the three main components of these cells. The cell body is the most critical component of the cell, the part that performs all of the tasks. Dendrites are cytoplasmic extensions or processes that transport impulses to the cell body. An axon is an extension or rotation that conducts impulses away from the cell body.

Nervous tissue also contains cells that assist the functions of the neurons rather than transmitting impulses. These are the glial cells or the neuroglia. These cells bind neurons together and insulate the neurons. Some are phagocytic, while others provide nutrients by binding blood vessels to neurons.
