The GI tract includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine—which includes therectum—and anus. Food enters the mouth through the GI tract’s hollow organs. While, the function of the appendix is unknown. One theory is that it acts as a storehouse for good bacteria, “rebooting” the digestive system after diarrheal illnesses.Thus, this histology art shows the beauty and the structure of three tissues in our digestive system.
