Histology Art (MT 30 – J) 3 years, 8 months ago The small intestine is the lengthiest portion of the gastrointestinal tract. Food breaks down into liquid in the small intestine, where most nutrients are absorbed. It is divided into three sections: the beginning, the middle, and the end. All three have slightly varied traits and roles to play.Source:

Your duodenum is the first section of the small intestine into which your stomach feeds. It is a short, descending chute that curves in a "C" form around your pancreas before joining the rest of the coiled intestines.
The middle part, known as the jejunum, accounts for less than half of the remaining length. It has a dense network of blood veins that give it a deep crimson color.
The ileum is your small intestine's final and longest portion. Food spends the longest time in your ileum, absorbing the most water and nutrients.
