Bile from the liver is produced into the small intestine and aids in the digestion of fat and certain vitamins. The liver is your body’s chemical “factory,” taking the raw materials received by the gut and converting them into all of the chemicals your body need to operate. In addition, the liver detoxifies potentially hazardous substances. Many medications that are hazardous to your body are broken down and secreted by it.
To aid in fat breakdown and absorption, the gallbladder gathers and concentrates bile from the liver before releasing it into the duodenum of the small intestine.
The large intestine, also known as the big bowel, converts dietary waste into feces, stores it, and then excretes it. This includes the colon, rectum, and anus. The colon is responsible for waste processing, making it simple and convenient to empty your bowels. It’s a 6 foot long muscular tube that joins the small intestine to the rectum. The colon is made up of several sections, including the cecum, ascending (right) colon, transverse (across) colon, descending (left) colon, and sigmoid colon (which links to the rectum).Digestive System: Function, Organs & Anatomy.
