The benefits of olive oil on the human integumentary system are discussed in this article. It is said that olive oil has been used as an emollient since ancient times. This beneficial effect of olive oil is due to its components’ nutritive and biological qualities. This oil is abundant in oleic acid and contains palmitate and stearic acids in addition to smaller amounts of linoleate and -linolenic acid. It also includes additional ingredients and compounds, such as carbohydrates, sterols, pigments, and numerous others, which contribute to its beneficial effect on the skin.-
Internal and external actions of olive oil’s local applications on the skin have been researched and proven to have numerous and significant effects. It includes anti-inflammatory properties, reducing dermatitis levels, and protecting the skin against oxidative and photo-oxidative stress. It is also believed to contribute to the smoother development of microflora in prematurely born babies, thereby preserving their corneous layer, a prerequisite for survival. Other than those mentioned, Olive oil is also renowned for its exceptional moisturizing and nourishing properties, which hydrate the skin on the face and body. Last but not least, the treatment of skin cancer is one of olive oil’s most significant potential effects that are still being researched.
