Bonghan Kim discovered the Bonghan system, a newly found circulatory system that conforms to classical acupuncture meridians, in the early 1960s. Despite its potential significance in biology and medicine, it has long been overlooked or neglected. Most of its major components, such as the Bonghan system (BHS) inside blood or lymph arteries, on the surfaces of internal organs, and in the brain’s ventricles, have just lately been established. Because Bonghan Kim did not specify his procedures, current studies required new approaches utilizing contemporary technology. One of the most important original contributions that made BHS observation feasible, for example, was the development of a BHS-specific dye, trypan blue.

The study about acupuncture treatment concerning Bonghan Kim’s circulatory system that discusses its hormone path, immune function, and hematopoiesis picked my interest, especially since it showed promising results.
Using the CatCombi ELISA kit, the researchers assessed noradrenalin (NA) and adrenalin (A) in the organ-surface Bong Han Corpuscle (BHC) of a rabbit and identified chromaffin cells that release NA and A. The study used an immunohistochemistry approach to investigate the existence of chromaffin cells at the acupoint CV12, providing data that backed BH Kim’s claim. Apart from the adrenal medulla, postganglionic fibers, and Merkel cells, these findings revealed a novel perspective on acupoints as an endocrine catecholamine organ.
Acupuncture treatment is generally associated with improved immune function, anti-inflammatory benefits, and an excess of mast cells at acupuncture sites. Monocytes, eosinophils, mast cells, and macrophages were found in substantial numbers on BHC and Bong Han Duct (BHD) organ surfaces. The presence of such immune cells in the BHD backed BH Kim’s hypothesis that the organ-surface BHD is an extension of the conventional acupuncture meridian system.
