    • Reflection on the article
      The main purpose of this study is to examine undergraduate students’ perceptions of the lecture style at the College of Technology Education in Kumasi, Ghana. Furthermore, one of their specific objectives includes determining undergraduate students’ impressions of the lecture style of teaching and investigating the students’ ideas to make the lecture more effective. According to this study, the lecture technique will remain the dominant teaching method in postsecondary institutions. This research shows that students preferred the lecture method because they believed that they learned more through lectures. In addition, Baldwin (1993) discovered that students who were taught introductory financial accounting through the lecture method scored better than those taught using active learning approaches.

      The lecture approach was recognized as the best teaching style by the majority of participants. Reasons include:
      – The teacher gives all topic-related knowledge.
      – It is a time-saving strategy.
      – Students listen to the lecture carefully and take notes, which will be crucial for active topic memory in class.

      With that, students continue to like the lecture because they feel that they pay fees to be taught rather than to go out and find knowledge on their own. Given the students’ preference for the lecture, lecturers must seek methods and means to make the class more entertaining and engaging for the students. Lecturers should be required to prepare and provide students with advanced reading assignments. They should also have a comprehensive idea of the topic so that they can effectively impart the knowledge and students can maintain concentration on the topic.

      • Despite developing innovative teaching and learning methods in higher education, lectures remain essential to many courses. The lecturers are the source of knowledge, and students must retain what they say. Alex Amartei Marmah’s research aims to investigate undergraduate students’ perceptions of the lecture method at the College of Technology Education in Kumasi, Ghana. The study specifically attempts  to answer questions such as “What are undergraduate students’ impressions of the lecture style of teaching?” and “What do students believe lecturers can do to make the lecture more effective?”

        The participant’s answers to the open-ended question show that to make the lecture more effective, and most respondents gave the following answers.

        – Students should be able to ask inquiries.
        – Lecturers should provide students with areas to learn ahead of time so that students may read beforehand.
        – Lecturers should foster an environment favorable to learning.
        – They should avoid making derogatory statements.
        – They should offer a timely response, speak loudly and courageously, and
        – To keep pupils awake, they should intersperse the lectures with humor.

        A related study about students’ preference for the lecture method states that they excelled in introductory economics, management, and accounting and believed they learned more through lectures. Furthermore, according to Baldwin (1993), students taught introductory financial accounting through lectures performed better than those taught by active learning approaches. Consequently, the majority of students selected lectures as the best teaching technique due to the following reasons;
        – The teacher provides all knowledge related to the topic,
        – It is a time-saving method, and students will be attentive in listening to the lecture while taking notes of essential concepts, which will be necessary for active recall during oral and written evaluations in class.

        Finally, the finding confirms the generally held belief that the lecture style will remain the dominant teaching mode in tertiary institutions. According to the analysis, students continue to like the lecture because they feel they pay fees to be taught rather than to go out and find knowledge on their own. Given students’ preference for lectures, instructors must seek methods and means to make the lectures more entertaining and engaging. Lecturers should be expected to prepare and provide advanced reading assignments to students effectively. Lecturers should also have a thorough understanding of the topics to devise the appropriate ways to impart knowledge to students, allowing them to engage and not lose focus of the session.
