An article entitled “An Introduction to the Healthcare System in the Philippines”

    • Being that the Philippines is an archipelago, there is an uneven distribution of health services and resources. In metro cities, there tend to be several hospitals in the same vicinity; whereas in rural areas, clinics are lacking resources and are often understaffed. Often, medical practitioners in the country are also not well-compensated and overworked, which gives rise to the trend of Filipino health workers moving to other countries to find better opportunities. As stated in the article, for every 33,000 people in the country, there is only one physician. All these pose an issue for the current state of our health system. Moreover, other developed countries have better facilities than the Philippines but healthcare services in our country are still of efficient quality, and will continue to endeavor for better resource distribution and healthcare accessibility.
