    Philippine Health System

    • The video shows that both public and private sector providers make up the Philippine Health System. As part of the government’s responsibility to provide affordable healthcare services, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) are established. PhilHealth, the government-run health insurance program, offers registered individuals and their dependents financial help by paying for a percentage of their medical costs.
Private healthcare, on the other hand, is covered by private health insurance or is paid for by an individual’s own money.

To improve the status of the healthcare system in the country, the government has recently implemented several laws and policies. This includes the Universal Health Care Law, which was signed in 2019. However, issues such as corruption, insufficient funding, workforce shortages, and infrastructure gaps continue to arise. They serve as tangible proof that the Philippine health system is still far from its ideal status and that more effort is required to achieve its goal of providing affordable and quality healthcare services to all Filipinos.
