    [1/3] Assignment Topic: Health System/s

Based on the World Health Organization in Europe, health systems provide services that enable, preserve, or rehabilitate people’s well-being and the well-being of their regions. With enough funding, robust health plans, and evidence-based policies, a well-functioning health system is built on having skilled and motivated health professionals, well-maintained infrastructure, and a consistent supply of medications and technologies. In addition, because of the interconnectedness of our globalized world, health systems must be able to manage and respond to threats to global public health, such as epidemic diseases and other severe occurrences.

    • Thoughts/Opinion:

Hospitals and public health facilities are only a small part of health systems. It also includes companies in the private sector, individuals taking care of sick family members at home, vector control initiatives, behavior modification initiatives, laws governing workplace health and safety, and a lot more. A more extensive health system also entails intersectional action to promote health-improving treatments, promoting legislation to lower the consumption of tobacco, alcohol, and sugar, as well as traffic safety measures.

Continuing, the primary objectives of a health system are to raise health indices like mortality rates and life expectancy while encouraging individuals to pursue healthier lives. The second is that a health system should be sensitive to the non-medical expectations of a person, ensuring that they are treated politely, promptly, and with respect when they come into contact with a health system. The final requirement for a health system is that the financial contributions be equitable.

Health systems also perform four essential tasks. These factors produce health systems’ inputs, such as medications, medical personnel, and computers. After combining such information, we can then start providing services. Then comes funding, where it is essential to consider raising money for the healthcare system, gathering resources, and making practical service purchases. Last but not least, this relates to stewardship, which is the general administration and control of the healthcare system. Stewardship is a vital component of a health system. Stewardship is essential because (1) population health should be a top priority for the country, (2) the provision of equitable universal health coverage cannot be ensured by free markets, and (3) the state plays a crucial role in establishing the rules of the game by keeping an eye on performance and enhancing accountability.

Therefore, health status, financial security, and responsiveness are examples of income indicators that should be used to gauge how well the health system is performing. Next, since equity is an issue, we should concentrate on something other than absolute numbers but instead on distribution. Lastly, indexes have been developed to assess overall performance by World Health Report (2000) and others.
