MT14 – Lec (BB)[1/3] Assignment Topic: Health System/s
Based on the World Health Organization in Europe, health systems provide services that enable, preserve, or rehabilitate people’s well-being and the well-being of their regions. With enough funding, robust health plans, and evidence-based policies, a well-functioning health system is built on having skilled and motivated health professionals, well-maintained infrastructure, and a consistent supply of medications and technologies. In addition, because of the interconnectedness of our globalized world, health systems must be able to manage and respond to threats to global public health, such as epidemic diseases and other severe occurrences.

REFLECTION: Silliman University Motto
Eojjann S. Tuñacao
GE 10 – BBEver heard of a school’s motto that resonates with you? A distinguished university known for its dedication to academic quality and volunteerism, Silliman University is situated in Dumaguete City, Philippines. It is an American university in the Philippines and a representation of high-caliber instruction in the area. In recapitulation, Silliman University was established in 1901. The guiding principles of Silliman University are reflected in the school\’s motto, \”Via, Veritas, Vita.”
Christian theology attaches great importance to the Latin phrase \”Via, Veritas, Vita,\” which is taken from John 14:6 of the New Testament. It asserts that Jesus is the personification of these three essential elements, encapsulating the core principles of Christian theology. Jesus is referred to as \”the Way\” by the word \”Via,\” which expresses the notion that He is the route to redemption and eternal life, acting as a link between humanity and God. He gives people direction and guidance in their spiritual journeys through His teachings and sacrifice. Furthermore, in this context, it stresses that His teachings and message are the ultimate truth, functioning as a source of heavenly wisdom and moral direction. As such, \”Veritas\” claims that Jesus is \”the Truth.\” The core of God\’s purpose and goal for humanity is revealed in his life and words. Lastly, through trust in Him, people can experience spiritual life and the totality of existence, according to \”Vita,\” which declares that Jesus is \”the Life.\” He is the source of eternal life, giving believers the assurance of both salvation and bodily resurrection.
“Via, Veritas, Vita” as Silliman University’s motto lives within me. Reminiscing on the times when I first heard it being uttered by a fellow senior like any other person would do, I was curious about what it meant and how it relates to the school’s principles and values. Without hesitance, I searched for it right away and right there I was relieved of my confusion. “Via, Veritas, Vita,” immediately conjures up feelings of purpose and enlightenment. It resonates and echoes the volumes of the immense portrayal of the message made by the University\’s dedication to education and the quest for truth and knowledge. Even though Latin was chosen as the medium of language, it does not in a way hinder what Silliman University wanted to reflect upon, and that is through its commitment to academic achievement together with becoming a leading Christian institution that shares and voices the message and word of God.
In all honesty, I am intrigued and impressed to learn that the motto of Silliman University is \”Via, Veritas, Vita\”. The Latin phrase \”The Way, The Truth, The Life,\” which means these things, has a strong resonance since it conjures up the quest for knowledge, truth, and a fulfilling life. Focusing on the path to academic and personal progress instills a feeling of direction and purpose. Promoting a dedication to finding one\’s true self and beliefs is widely applicable. It serves as a reminder that education encompasses more than simply learning new information; it also involves discovering one\’s real calling and living a happy life. Since it encourages individuals to go on their own journeys of self-discovery, its profound message is simple to comprehend. As a result, I also want to say that as a Christian, I find it quite meaningful to know that Silliman University\’s slogan is \”Via, Veritas, Vita\”. It represents the central tenet of my religion, which is that Jesus is \”The Way, The Truth, and The Life\” (John 14:6). It serves as a compelling reminder of the tenets of Christianity that have guided my life, highlighting the search for spiritual truth and eternal life in Christ.
Consequently, the motto of Silliman University, \”Via, Veritas, Vita,\” skillfully combines the pursuit of knowledge with an acknowledgment of the veracity of God\’s Word. The idea that learning and religion may coexist peacefully and that the road to wisdom and truth is a heavenly trip are both stressed by this slogan. It challenges us to recognize that education is a tool for discovering basic truths about the world and God\’s Word in addition to just learning facts. As the slogan of Silliman University constantly and wonderfully reminds us, our quest for knowledge and our spiritual journey are connected and equally significant in our quest for meaningful and purposeful living. May the slogan \”Via, Veritas, Vita\” accompany us on our journey through life and serve as a constant reminder for us.

GE 10 – BBOn dominant red and white hues, a distinguished and significant symbol encapsulates the essence of Silliman University’s dedication to propelling growth in learning, enlightenment, and development.
Looking at the Silliman University logo, made me visualize things wherein, the vibrant crimson and white of the logo exudes power and alight, reflecting the fervor with which Silliman University approaches education. The institution\’s dedication to igniting the aspirations and curiosities of its students is symbolized by this vibrant hue.

As one steps and makes a solid decision to be part of the University’s growing family, one will never fail to marvel and feel a sense of astonishment at how Silliman University’s seal or logo comes in broad daylight. At one look, it signifies a strong commitment towards conveying the outmost pursuit of knowledge, pushing through realms of academic success, and building a strong foundation for the relationship and connection with God.
Silliman University’s seal is as detailed as it gets, with the addition of several elements that each possess a representation of what the University is aiming to convey to its constituents. Starting off with the presence of the year Silliman University was founded, in 1901, the utmost beginning in which all the hopes and dreams were built catering to the educational needs of those who longingly yearned. One can never miss the center symbols that showcase a lighted lamp and a book (the Holy Bible). With this ever-looming representation, Silliman University highlights its commitment to education and the never-ending quest for knowledge, while at the same time continuously cultivating the love for God, and the basking of enlightenment to not only be competent learners but also having this strong sense of acknowledging and building a stronger relationship with God. Aside from that, the vines and stars frame the primary motif. The university\’s dedication to academic excellence and appreciation of its students and faculty\’s accomplishments is reflected in the vines, seeing it webbed with one another. Meanwhile, the stars reflect the association between the Philippines and the United States of America. This speaks volumes of how these two countries merge to make Silliman University possible.
Furthermore, going deeper into the Silliman University seal is the appearance of the scallop that symbolizes the winds of change. This provides a start comparison of how as time passes by, the University can be swayed by changes, however be standing firm in what its main goal is in providing quality education to learners and fellow faculties. Not to mention, that the seal is enclosed in a circle, which highlights the message of being in a Christian institution, that facilitates not only holistic education but also diving deep toward progression in knowing and learning the word of God. Finally, who cannot be drawn into the motto being engraved in the Silliman University logo – Via, Veritas, Vita – “The Way, the Truth, and the Life,” which serves as Silliman’s guiding principle as a faith common to all. Silliman University affirms that in Jesus the Nazareth, we may find and witness the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
In this essence, the complete Silliman University logo acts as a potent symbol of the school\’s rich history, guiding principles, and everlasting commitment. This emblem has served as a symbol of the university\’s dedication to learning, faith, and community for more than a century. It not only represents a dedication to academic achievement but also recalls the fundamental religious beliefs that have governed the institution ever since it was founded. The significance of this insignia goes beyond simple symbolism; it serves as a bonding agent for several generations of Silliman students, professors, and staff.
Hospitals and public health facilities are only a small part of health systems. It also includes companies in the private sector, individuals taking care of sick family members at home, vector control initiatives, behavior modification initiatives, laws governing workplace health and safety, and a lot more. A more extensive health system also entails intersectional action to promote health-improving treatments, promoting legislation to lower the consumption of tobacco, alcohol, and sugar, as well as traffic safety measures.
Continuing, the primary objectives of a health system are to raise health indices like mortality rates and life expectancy while encouraging individuals to pursue healthier lives. The second is that a health system should be sensitive to the non-medical expectations of a person, ensuring that they are treated politely, promptly, and with respect when they come into contact with a health system. The final requirement for a health system is that the financial contributions be equitable.
Health systems also perform four essential tasks. These factors produce health systems’ inputs, such as medications, medical personnel, and computers. After combining such information, we can then start providing services. Then comes funding, where it is essential to consider raising money for the healthcare system, gathering resources, and making practical service purchases. Last but not least, this relates to stewardship, which is the general administration and control of the healthcare system. Stewardship is a vital component of a health system. Stewardship is essential because (1) population health should be a top priority for the country, (2) the provision of equitable universal health coverage cannot be ensured by free markets, and (3) the state plays a crucial role in establishing the rules of the game by keeping an eye on performance and enhancing accountability.
Therefore, health status, financial security, and responsiveness are examples of income indicators that should be used to gauge how well the health system is performing. Next, since equity is an issue, we should concentrate on something other than absolute numbers but instead on distribution. Lastly, indexes have been developed to assess overall performance by World Health Report (2000) and others.
