A Laboratory Information System (LIS) is that of which that allows the collection, the storage, the processing, the management, and transmittance of laboratory information including patient information, laboratory tests results, etc. Its uses is generally what is already aforementioned, however, more of those include receiving and sending orders, ensuring of quality control, and the aid in the overall ease of providing healthcare.
Artificial Intelligence
An Artificial Intelligence (AI), on the other hand is, by words of Burns, Laskowski, and Tucci, a “simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems” (2023). Based on last week’s discussion on AI, I have learned that it is very much helpful in terms of efficiency and quality work. It was very quick in generating your requests as evidenced by our experience using ChatGPT. And in the field of medicine, it would allow so much supplementary aid to healthcare overall in that of our physician’s decisions, data providence, and many more. However, I acknowledge that because it gives so much help, it could cost the self-growth for people in that AI provides that space for possible laziness, dependency, and worse, irresponsibility. For all jobs, AI is advantageous, but only if it is allowed to help you in actual situations wherein you need “help,’ and if it is allowed to work as the “supplementary” product that it is. It should never be allowed to override the end decisions of us, humans (professionals), unless the situations somehow calls for it. After all, AI was meant to mimic human intelligence. It is based off of humans and not the other way around. It should not be the other way around. Also, it is very much inflexible (at least as of the present). Letting it decide for others brings in the issue of ethics into the mix.
