Assignment

  1. Laboratory Information System: Its Definition and its Uses
    • A Laboratory Information System, or LIS, is an operating system that focuses on serving the functioning processes in the clinical laboratory (McCudden et.al, 2020). It is utilized to support the collection, processing, analysis, storage, and retrieval of clinical laboratory test results and related patient information in a healthcare institution. The main goal of an LIS is to create an efficient, accurate, and reliable flow of laboratory operations in the clinical laboratory. An LIS is created to make sure that the laboratory activities is automated to reduce the amount of errors and improve the speed of delivery of laboratory results from the provider to the patient.
    • A Laboratory Information System has a number of uses, one of which is to support the collection, processing, analysis, storage, and retrieval of clinical laboratory test results and related patient information in a healthcare institution. An LIS can also be used to automate the managing of test orders and results in the clinical laboratory.
  2. Implication of a Laboratory Information System to your Future Work/Medical Technology
    • Since a Laboratory Information System is designed for a clinical laboratory, Medical Technologist benefits mostly to the services and uses of the system. Some of the implications of an LIS to Medical Technology include: the increase of productivity of the activities and services of a clinical laboratory as it would greatly reduce the time and effort exerted in managing laboratory operations, reduced risk and errors in data resulting to a more accurate and reliable laboratory results, improved data management resulting to an enhanced storage and retrieval and patient records and results data, and lastly, improved patient care as all services and uses of a Laboratory Information System results to the production of quality services of a clinical laboratory for the benefit of the healthcare providers and their patients.
  3. Implications of AI Websites to your Studies/Future Work
    • Although the goal of these AI websites is to help people in various things, it can also affect them negatively. Some implications of AI websites, specifically in the Medical Field, is that people would tend to be dependent in the judgements created by an AI. Instead of going to a hospital, patients would just consult AI websites by asking an AI about their potential illnesses by sending signs and symptoms the patient has been feeling. This could potentially lead to false diagnosis and worse, mortality and death of the patient. We should always take into consideration the ability of a medical professional to make judgements and diagnose illnesses as they have undergone proper education and have undertook several years of experience just to perfect their knowledge in diagnosing diseases and illnesses to their patients. Not only in the medical field, but to every aspect of our life. Depending too much on these AI websites is not beneficial to an individual, it should only be used as a supplement and support rather than a replacement to proper techniques of acquiring knowledge.
