LIS – ASSIGNMENT

It’s basically like HIS but it’s for the Laboratory to keep records of specimens and chemicals instead of patients and diseases which is very helpful towards Medical Technologists and Pathologists.

As a “turn-key” solution, the Laboratory Information System (LIS) was created. An interactive minicomputer is used for the primary functions, giving the laboratory total control over everyday processing. A network of microcomputers and microprocessors is used to collect the results from automated analyzers. (Forest JC, et al.)

For clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories, a LIS is a software system that keeps track of, manages, updates, and stores patient testing data. This includes receiving test orders, sending orders to laboratory analyzers, tracking orders, results, and quality control, and transmitting results to an EHR and practice management systems.
