A laboratory information system (LIS) is a piece of healthcare software that maintains, processes, and retains patient information associated with lab procedures and tests. Basically, it is a system that is geared towards supporting patient-centered specimens.
I really believe that its implications will focus more on how this can support the automated procedure for looking through the samples our patients send us, and at the same time, this will open up a space where the human element and automation can work in unison.
I am open to the concept that as time goes on and technology develops, artificial intelligence will eventually play a major role in many aspects of our professional lives. We must never ignore the possibility of a faster workflow when AI is integrated into our systems.
