The American missionary physician Henry Langheim founded the Dumaguete Mission Hospital in 1903, operating under the Presbyterian Foreign Mission Board from the United States. It is the second oldest American-founded hospital in the nation, behind CPU–Iloilo Mission Hospital (founded 1901) in Iloilo City, which is the university hospital of Central Philippine University, Silliman’s sister school.
