The esophagus is a hollow, muscular tube that connects your throat to your stomach and transports food and liquid. Food is propelled down to your stomach by muscles in your esophagus.

The stomach is a muscular digestive organ. It is part of the gastrointestinal tract. When you eat, your stomach contracts and produces acids and enzymes that break down the food. Your stomach sends food to your small intestine once it has been broken down.

The tongue serves as a digestive organ by helping swallowing and promoting food flow during mastication. Speech and taste are two other key functions.
