BSMT IIWHAT IS A SILLIMANIAN FOR YOU?
A Sillimanian for me is somebody who is able to embody the image of what I think is a holistic person. I see him to be smart in more than one aspect of life. I see him as open-minded. I see him as patient. I see him as understanding. I see him as curious. I see him as caring. I see him as environmentally and societally conscious. And I see him as all of this in the face of a faithful walk with God. I haven’t been in Silliman long, but still long enough to make an opinion about it, and thus far, I truly see Silliman as a diverse, open, brilliant, Godly institution, and I expect nothing less of its constituents.
WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON THE MENTAL ASPECT OF MAN?
Truly, I’ve always understood the human mind to be a complex thing. Too complex, even, that I never let myself go beyond self-set limitations to truly learn its role in making a person. But for today, I went beyond them, and the way I’ve come to understand it is that the mental aspect(s) of man is somehow this mapped-out matrix that defines the labyrinthine tapestry that makes out our cognitive, emotional, conscious and unconscious landscape. It allows us to understand why people are the way they are, why they make the decisions that they do, why they choose the paths that they choose, etc. The way I view it, the mental aspect of man enables us to have this solid perception of a person’s individuality, yet allows us, as well, to connect one person with another.

BSMT IIWhat is Whole Person Education and Multiple Intelligence? — A Reflection
I do not think there is any better way to approach Whole Person Education than emphasizing the importance of inclusivity when it comes to the six areas of intelligence [Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Social Intelligence (SQ), Adversity Intelligence (AQ), Cultural Intelligence (CQ), and Financial Intelligence (FQ)] for that holistic development. And such is the focus of KnewSTEP Education. You see, so many people could bring in a series of applaudable test scores but be entirely inept at maneuvering through their emotions, picking up at social cues, managing their expenses, and more. This then would be a lack of growth in one area of intelligence, leading to mere partial development, which is not the goal. People should realize that not everything should be and is measured by the numerical description of their learning, which would oftentimes reflect mostly just book smartness. Or, rather, people should realize that in this time and age, grades do not reflect merely the said book smartness but intelligence in multiple aspects. This piece by KnewSTEP serves as a good reminder to people that there are many facets to intelligence and that not being brilliant at one does not equate to the failure of your entire person. This reading definitely reminds you to celebrate what you’re already good at and to only keep striving for healthy growth in those that you are not.

Reflection on the Interview of Dr. Ben S. Malayang III on Whole Person Education:So much, it seems, to me that what Dr. Malayang sees as Whole Person Education (WPE) has so much to do with God as not just an inclusion to learning, but as one of its cores. I agree with that. I do not think there is any better foundation for such a holistic goal if not for that of a being so without bounds. Furthermore, he speaks about people being in dialogue with each other, which I think is only further intensified in Silliman being a part of the United Board. I like that outlook that WPE is not something achievable (or should be seen as achievable) with just the self but with everybody around us. Whole Person Education seems like such a broad concept. However, with regards to Dr. Malayang, I think where we are right now in terms of approach to this objective is such a good walkway.
Whole Person Education is a “holistic approach” to learning.
