Cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscle tissue are the three forms of muscle tissue. Cardiac muscle cells are found in the heart’s walls and have a striped (striated) appearance. They are controlled involuntarily. Smooth muscle fibers, with the exception of the heart, are found in the walls of hollow visceral organs (such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines), are spindle-shaped, and are also under involuntary control. Muscle fibers that are connected to the skeleton are known as skeletal muscle fibers. They have a striated look and are voluntary.
