Histology Art (MT 30 – J) 4 years, 5 months ago Muscle tissue is made up of cells that have the unique ability to shorten or contract in order to move body parts. The tissue is densely packed with cells but is well supplemented with blood vessels. Because the cells are long and slender, they are sometimes referred to as muscle fibers, and they are typically arranged in bundles or layers surrounded by connective tissue. Actin and myosin are contractile proteins found in muscle.Skeletal muscle tissue, smooth muscle tissue, and cardiac muscle tissue are the three types of muscle tissue.
Skeletal muscles are voluntary in control, striated, multinucleated and cylindrical. Usually these kind of muscles are attached to our bones. Smooth muscle cells are spindle-shaped with a single nucleus in the middle and no striations. They’re referred to as involuntary muscles and are commonly found in GI tract. Branching fibers, one nucleus per cell, striations, and intercalated disks all exist in cardiac muscle. Its contraction is uncontrollable and is only found in the heart.
