This book is all about Skin Tissue Models, and it provides a translational link for biomedical researchers interested in interdisciplinary approaches to skin regeneration. Because the skin is the body’s greatest organ, designed substitutes have important medicinal applications for individuals suffering from disease and damage – from burn wounds and surgical scars to vitiligo, psoriasis, and even plastic surgery. This book provides readers with a preliminary description of the normal structure and function of mammalian skin, as well as exposure to clinical problems and disease, coverage of potential therapeutic molecules and testing, skin substitutes, models as skin biology study platforms, and emerging technologies.

Skin models are experimental systems that simulate human skin physiology, function, or illness. In vitro approaches, ex vivo skin cultures, and animal models, particularly mice and fish, are among them.-
The production of physiologically realistic in vitro skin models that include all skin layers, namely the epidermis, dermis, and subcutis, is a significant challenge in the field of skin tissue engineering. Increasing regulatory restrictions, as well as a ban on animal trials for substance testing, necessitate the development of reliable and in vivo-like test devices that allow for high-throughput screening of substances. However, due to fibroblast-mediated contraction, the reproducibility and usefulness of in vitro testing has been limited thus far.
