Getaprofessor Updates!
Invited for a speaking engagement by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines to share my experiences as a tech startup founder in the Philippines. Sharing the challenges I encountered in establishing and leading a tech startup in our country. Commercializing the intellectual property I created is not easy, but if my efforts result in more successful startups, it will create a demonstration effect that will draw more talent and capital to our beloved Dumaguete City. ![]()

How do you respond to someone who is angry?

How do you respond when someone says a harsh statement against you? Do you respond in anger and defend yourself? Do you seek to understand rather than be understood? A gentle answer may be the key.
To respond in anger seems to be the easiest thing to do. Humans are emotional creatures. We seek to defend ourselves all the time. After all, this is how humanity has survived throughout the years. Defend yourself and your family. It is how we respond to fear and attack from perceived enemies.
But is it not wise to understand the other person? To learn why they say those things against you? To provide a listening heart even though the words may hurt. To be the bigger person who seeks to understand and give a calm answer.
The world may hurt you, but you can choose not to hurt back. It seems easy to say, but it is difficult to do. I write these words not because I can easily forgive, but I write to seek to understand my thoughts and those of others.
I am reminded by the verse from Proverbs, “A gentle answer turns away wrath”. As much as it is difficult to give a gentle answer when emotions are high, it is good to know that we remind ourselves of this verse that a gentle answer can be the avenue to a fruitful discussion between people.
How do you teach properly?
Teachers often ask themselves these questions. How do I teach? Am I doing it right? We ask ourselves these questions to ensure that we are doing the best that we can as mentors. We are affecting the lives of future generations and what comes out of our mouths is vital for their well-being.
So how do you teach properly? Is it speaking well and engaging your students to participate in class? Is it creating good questions that would pass Bloom’s standards?
Our cup is full of work but we must always be able to say that we did our best. We did our best in our work. We did our best to impart knowledge and skills. Mistakes may happen along the way but it is our ability to take responsibility for it and improve ourselves that determine the impact we have on others.

Lalamove or Grab?

As a student or a teacher, you may have to deliver a package to someone. You may ask yourself, what delivery app am I going to use?
You hear about popular delivery apps from a lot of people. Two of which are Grab and Lalamove. Do these apps serve your needs?
Will they be able to provide quality service at the right price?
As a consumer, we expect the best from the apps that we use. We are spoiled for choice as we look at all the apps that we can download and use for our needs. Apps provide convenience in our busy lives.
Let us take a look at these apps and their services.
In the battle of the delivery apps, these two are the most popular in Asia. Grab started in Malaysia in 2012 and expanded to other countries in the region.
Lalamove started in Hongkong in 2013 and also expanded to neighboring cities in Asia. If you are looking to send a package, both of these apps would have already entered your mind.
If you are from the Visayas area in the Philippines, you would know that Grab was the first delivery app to enter this market and reach Negros Oriental. Currently, Lalamove is only available in the National Capital Region of the Philippines and Cebu City.. They may expand to Dumaguete City and other cities in the Philippines once the market is ready for it.
We would recommend that you keep these two apps on your phone. Visit their websites and use whichever is cheaper based on your location and purpose. If you are going to deliver something nearer, Grab is the best bet. If you want to deliver on locations that are far from your address, Lalamove would be the best choice.
